Patna: A shocking case has come to light from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where a couple allegedly sold their 4-year-old daughter for Rs 40 thousand. Due to the alertness of the landlord, the innocent child was saved and recovered within 24 hours.

According to the police, Subodh Sharma, a resident of Bihar, and his wife lived in a rented house in Badatangi Sahi of Badagada police station area. Father works as a carpenter and mother had remarried. The four-year old innocent child was the child of her first husband due to which there was a dispute going on in the family. The landlord of the house, Sarthak Mohanty, noticed unusual movement in the house, after which he also saw the CCTV footage, after which he became suspicious and after listening to the conversation, lodged a complaint with the Badagada police.

Based on the complaint, police registered case number 748/24 and detained six people under BNS 143(4). Those detained include Bihar resident couple Subodh Sharma and his wife, two female brokers Rashmi Rekha Sahu and Jaali Lenka, a beauty parlor worker and Pipli resident couple Raghunath and Priyadarshini Behera. Police said that investigation revealed that the mother- The father had agreed to sell the girl a pair of appliqués for Rs 40,000. Both the brokers executed the deal, which was recorded on the stamp paper of the court. However, a dispute over commissions between brokers and buyers delayed the final payment, bringing further attention to the transaction.
