Delhi A very tragic accident took place on Friday night near Lekhram Park of Tikri Kalan in the north-west area of Uttarakhand. A small grocery shop suddenly caught fire. Shopkeeper Vineet (31 years) and his wife Renu (29 years) present in the shop got trapped in the fire and smoke. Both died of suffocation. Both these husband and wife were originally residents of Tilhar village of Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. In Delhi, he used to run a small general store (grocery shop) in a street near a school. The shop was also his house, that is, the upper part was for living and the lower part was for the shop.

At around 9 pm someone called Delhi Fire Service that the shop was on fire. Immediately two fire engines and 10 firemen reached the spot. The team of Mundka police station also came immediately. When they reached, the shutter of the shop was closed and heavy smoke and flames were visible from outside. The initial guess of the police is that there might have been a short-circuit in the electric wire near the counter of the shop. The fire first started there and then spread very fast due to the plastic packets, bags and other items kept nearby. Within a few seconds the entire shop was filled with smoke.

Difficult to breathe in smoke

Policemen say that perhaps Vineet and Renu had pulled down the shutters from inside out of fear or to prevent the fire from spreading outside. But this cost him his life. Due to the shutters being closed, no air came at all and the smoke became so dense that it became difficult to breathe. By the time the people outside and the police entered inside by breaking the shutters with wooden sticks and rods, both of them had become unconscious. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Bahadurgarh, but the doctors declared him dead on sight. The shop was completely burnt to ashes. The walls had turned black, all the things outside like biscuits, chocolates, chips were burnt black.

children became orphans

In this accident, Vineet and Renu left their two innocent sons orphan. Elder son Aditya is 10 years old and younger son Rubal is 9 years old. Now both the children will be taken care of by their ailing grandmother Shampyari. Renu’s sister Alka lives on the upper floor of the same building. She told that she suddenly heard crying and screaming. When she came running down, she saw that the shop was on fire. Her husband Brijesh was the first to run to help. He tried to break the shutter with an iron rod, but he got electric shock and fell down. Alka also got hurt. Alka is very sad and says, ‘We do not understand why the police is saying that the shutter was closed from inside. We believe that someone else might have pulled down the shutter from outside.

Started a shop for her sick mother

Anyone would cry after hearing the pain of Vineet’s mother Shampyari. She said, ‘Vineet was my only son. My daughter also passed away earlier this year. Now I am left with only two grandchildren. Last year Vineet had an accident, his waist and leg were badly injured. He could not even walk properly. Leaving his factory job, he started this small shop for the treatment of his ailing mother and for the education of his children. Both husband and wife worked hard day and night, just wanted a good life for their children.
