Bhopal/Ratlam. A sudden fire broke out in the Rajdhani Express going to New Delhi on Sunday morning, creating panic among the passengers. However, due to the quick understanding and emergency action of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and railway employees, a major accident was averted. Within just 15 minutes, all 68 passengers in B-1 coach were evacuated safely.
The incident took place around 5:30 am on Sunday morning between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations under Kota division of West Central Railway. This place is said to be about 110 kilometers away from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.
According to the information, the fire broke out in B-1 third AC bogie of Rajdhani Express, which was near the SLR luggage brake van located at the front of the train. Initially, smoke was seen rising from the lower part of the coach and within no time the fire took a huge form. Within a few moments, the fire engulfed the third AC coach and the adjacent SLR coach. The high flames of the fire were visible far away.
It is being told that the guard of the train saw the fire in time and immediately informed the loco pilot. After this the high speed train was stopped immediately. Without wasting any time, railway employees and RPF personnel started evacuating the passengers to safety. The passengers were temporarily shifted to other coaches.
As soon as information about the incident was received, fire department teams and senior railway officials reached the spot. The relief and rescue operations were monitored by Ratlam Divisional Railway Manager and other officials. In view of safety, the overhead electric supply was switched off and both the damaged coaches were separated from the train.
According to railway officials, there is no information about any passenger or railway employee being injured in this accident. However, due to this incident, train operations on the New Delhi-Mumbai railway route were affected. Many trains were stopped at different stations, including the Mumbai-Jaipur Superfast Express.
Initial investigation believes short circuit was the cause of the fire, but the railway administration has ordered a detailed investigation to find out the actual cause. Officials said that arrangements are being made to add additional coaches at Kota station to ensure onward journey of passengers.
