Obscene film played repeatedly in virtual hearing of Delhi High Court, hearing had to be stopped
Obscene films started being screened during the virtual hearing in Delhi High Court on Wednesday. After which the hearing had to be stopped hurriedly. The incident occurred when the online hearing was going on headed by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia. Along with the film, disturbing music was also played during the hearing.
The person from whose account the movie was shown was found out.
According to Live Law, during the online hearing of the court, an unknown person gained entry into the video conferencing session and started screen-sharing obscene content right during the hearing. The court officials immediately took cognizance of the matter, stopped the hearing and deactivated the video conferencing link. So far, it has come to light that the obscene material may have been circulated from the accounts of petitioners Shridhar Sarnobat and Shitijit Singh.
Delhi Police started investigation into the case
The High Court administration has lodged a complaint in the matter with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police, which is investigating the case. The IFSO unit is a specialized cyber crime department that handles complex digital crimes including online fraud, cyber harassment and sensitive cases involving national security.
Suspicion of hacking account
In the questioning so far, petitioner Shitijit Singh claimed that his account was hacked from the US, and that he was not aware of how the obscene video was played during the hearing. Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma informed the bench that the incident had happened not only in the Chief Justice but also in many other court chambers. After this, Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay has directed the Registrar General to initiate action.
