Pradhan Mantri Safer Matrutva Abhiyaan is organized on 9th Sunday of every month or on the following office working day if it is a holiday. A District Planning and Executive Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of District Surgeons to effectively implement the campaign at the district level.

Services provided under Pradhan Mantri Safer Matrutva Abhiyan

  • The beneficiary is examined by taking the previous medical history and making sure that there are no danger symptoms, complications and any risk.
  • Blood pressure, abdominal examination and fetal heart rate are checked for all beneficiaries who come for antenatal check-up.
  • All detected high-risk mothers are referred to a higher institution for further treatment. And under the Janani Shishu Suraksha programme, proper treatment is given in higher institutions and all the beneficiaries are given MCP card.
  • All expectant mothers undergo a sonography in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
  • On the day of the campaign, all the beneficiaries are counseled on pregnancy check-up, danger symptoms in pregnancy, preparation for child birth, preparation for pregnancy complications, importance of taking iron tablets and calcium tablets, institutional delivery, referral services, benefits under Janani Suraksha Yojana and Janani Shishu Suraksha Program, post natal care, breastfeeding and supplementary feeding, institutional delivery and post natal family planning.

  • Apart from the government organization, if any private organization is willing to provide free service on the day of the campaign, they are included in the campaign. Through them the above mentioned services are provided in their own organization. High-risk mothers identified by private organizations during the campaign are referred to government health institutions with referral letters.
