A unique incident happened on the shooting set. Pran gave a strong punch to Kishore Kumar out of compulsion.

New Delhi: There have been many such stories in the golden era of Hindi cinema which still surprise people. One such interesting and shocking incident is related to the legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar and the veteran actor Pran, when during the shooting of a film, the situation became so strange that Pran was forced to throw a real punch.

Both the actors worked together in many films and their pairing was very much liked by the audience. But behind the scenes, Kishore Kumar’s fun-loving nature sometimes became a challenge for shooting. He was known for his sense of humor and would often joke around even in serious scenes.

This incident is from the shooting of the film Pehli Jhalak where a fight scene was being shot. In this scene, Pran had to punch Kishore Kumar in the stomach and in return Kishore had to give a reaction of pain. It sounds easy but actually filming this scene proved to be very difficult.

As soon as the camera rolled and Pran punched Kishore Kumar, instead of groaning in pain, he started laughing loudly. His style would make the entire set laugh but the scene would get spoiled again and again. The director and the entire team tried to explain several times that this was a serious scene but Kishore Kumar was helpless due to his habit.

When the scene could not be done properly even after 12 to 14 retakes, Pran faced a big challenge. Eventually he decided to take a different approach. The next shot started and this time instead of giving a light punch in the film style, Pran gave a really strong punch.

This time the sound of real pain came out of Kishore Kumar’s mouth and the scene was filmed exactly as the director wanted. Pran later recalled the incident and said that it was not a decision taken in anger but out of compulsion to complete the shooting.

Pran also said that working with Kishore Kumar was not easy as he had such a playful nature that he would lighten up any serious situation. However, this was also his biggest specialty which made him a favorite of the audience.
