Aadhaar Pan Linking: Last Chance to Link Pan-Aadhaar! Ignoring it can have a huge financial impact
- Last chance to link PAN-Aadhaar!
- Deadline till 31st December
- Otherwise, the PAN card will become ‘invalid’ from January 1.
Aadhaar Pan Linking Deadline: PAN and Aadhaar link (Aadhaar Pan Linking) deadline is approaching. As per Income Tax Department rules, if PAN is not linked with Aadhaar by January 1, 2026, it will become inactive. Especially for those whose Aadhaar was issued on or before October 1, 2024, linking of PAN and Aadhaar is mandatory by December 31, 2025. Failure to link on time can affect many important tasks related to tax payment, banking and financial transactions. Deactivation of PAN means that the PAN card, though valid, is no longer functional. This means that the PAN will remain legal, but you will not be able to use it.
Why is PAN-Aadhaar linking necessary?
If the PAN is inactive, it may be difficult to get personal loans, home loans or low interest loans. Additionally, TDS can be deducted at a higher rate on many financial transactions, thereby increasing the tax burden. Bank accounts, investments and other financial services may also experience difficulties.
Missing the deadline will result in heavy fines
If the PAN-Aadhaar linking is not completed by the deadline, a penalty of ₹1,000 will be required to reactivate the PAN. This amount has to be deposited through Income Tax e-Pay Tax facility, only then the linking process will be completed. A late fee of ₹1,000 may also be charged for earlier delays.

What to do if there is a discrepancy in the information?
Linking fails often due to mismatch of name, date of birth or mobile number. At such time:
1. PAN Repair: Visit the website of Protean or UTIITSL to update the information.
2. Aadhaar Repair: Go to UIDAI’s portal and update the information.
3. Biometric Options: If online linking is not possible, then linking can be done through Biometric Authentication by visiting an authorized PAN Seva Kendra (requires Rs 1,000 fee and documents).
Online Linking Method (Step-by-Step)
1. Go to e-Filing Portal of Income Tax Department.
2. There select the option ‘Link Aadhaar’.
3. Validate by entering PAN and Aadhaar number.
4. Complete verification through OTP received on mobile.
How to check linking status?
To check whether your PAN-Aadhaar is already linked, click on the ‘Check Aadhaar Link Status’ option on the income tax portal and fill in the information. There you will know your status instantly.
