Aadhaar verification through UIDAI QR code, ban on photocopying
UIDAI is going to bring a major change in the existing system of identity verification. After the implementation of the new rule, the process of submitting and storing the photocopy of Aadhaar will end. Now the identity will be verified through QR code based digital system, which will be more secure, faster and will reduce the possibility of misuse.
Aadhaar Verification Update: UIDAI is preparing to change the process of identity verification across the country and soon a new rule will be notified, under which hotels, mobile stores, banks or any institution will not be allowed to take physical copy of Aadhaar. The institution will have to be registered with UIDAI and adopt QR code based digital verification. This change is being made because a large number of photocopies of Aadhaar are stored insecurely, which poses a serious risk to privacy and data security.
Why was it necessary to ban photocopying of Aadhaar?
At many places, copies of Aadhaar are lying in the open and there is no security of any kind on them. This puts sensitive information at risk. UIDAI believes that paper-based verification has now become an outdated model and is more prone to misuse.
The new system will be completely digital and identity can be verified instantly through QR code. In this method, the complete Aadhaar number does not have to be shared and any organization can verify the information just by scanning. This will significantly reduce the risk of data theft and misuse of documents.
Identification will be done through QR code, era of photocopy will end
The QR code on the Aadhaar card contains encrypted data which when scanned can confirm the identity in seconds. This process will work even without internet, as UIDAI is preparing to launch an offline verification app.
After this change, just one scan will be enough for hotel check-in, getting a mobile SIM or entry into any event. Institutions will neither have to store photocopies nor worry about keeping the data safe.
Registration with UIDAI will be mandatory
Any organization that wants to do Aadhaar based verification will have to register with UIDAI. This registration will allow them to use QR based tools and apps and the verification process can be tracked.
After the implementation of the new system, the method of identity verification will become uniform in the country. This will prevent illegal copying, wrong storage and misuse of data. The CEO of UIDAI has indicated that the rule has been approved and its notification will be issued soon.
