There has been a political uproar in Chennai over the social media post of Congress leader Praveen Chakraborty, in which he had claimed that the outstanding debt of Tamil Nadu is now more than that of Uttar Pradesh. On this statement Tamil Nadu Congress President K. Selvaperunthagai has expressed strong displeasure. Selvaperunthagai said that I do not understand why he is praising the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh and why he is belittling the Tamil Nadu government of INDIA alliance. His voice is the voice of RSS.”

He also made serious allegations against the central government. According to Selvaperunthagai, “Tamil Nadu pays about Rs 2 lakh crore as GST every year, but in return only Rs 46 thousand crore is returned to us. The rest of the money is being distributed among BJP ruled states, especially Uttar Pradesh.” He also said that huge investment is coming into Tamil Nadu, hence it is completely wrong to compare the INDIA coalition government with BJP ruled states. “This is very wrong, we condemn it. The figures are also wrong. I am writing a complaint to the Congress President in this matter. No one can defame the INDIA coalition government like this.”
