Power has gone but wealth has increased! AAP’s donations increased 3 times after Delhi defeat, know who is that big donor

Aam Aadmi Party: Donations received by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have increased more than three times this year. According to the information given by the party to the Election Commission (EC), the amount of donations in the financial year 2023-24 was Rs 11.06 crore. Whereas in 2024-25 it will increase to Rs 38.1 crore. It is worth noting that these figures are of those donors who have given more than Rs 20,000 as donation.

Let us tell you that Aam Aadmi Party has received more than 43 percent donations from Prudent Electoral Trust alone. This trust donated Rs 16.4 crore to AAP. The trust, funded by corporates like Jindal Steel & Power, Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd, Bharti Airtel, Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent Pharmaceuticals, donated Rs 2,180.07 crore to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the same period (FY 2024-25).

Who donated more to AAP?

Apart from Prudent, the majority of donations to the Aam Aadmi Party came from individual donors rather than companies. Only four institutions were included in the top 100 donors, including one NGO. At the same time, only eight companies were included in the top 300 donors, which makes clear the limited role of corporate contributions in the party’s funding profile.

Overall, 17 companies donated Rs 90.3 lakh to AAP. This has happened at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a major setback after losing power in Delhi earlier this year. The largest institutional donor was Karnataka’s not-for-profit charitable trust ‘Bharatha Swamukti Samastha’ which contributed Rs 30 lakh.

Got Rs 25 lakh from Kuber Polyplast

Other donors include Delhi-based Kuber Polyplast and Advanced Chemicals. They donated Rs 25 lakh and Rs 11 lakh respectively to the Aam Aadmi Party. Apart from this, small donations ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 6 lakh came from different companies including a pharma company, automobile dealership, chartered accountant, diagnostic lab, design firm, security agency and a tour company.

Talking about individual donors, Talapadi Umashankar Shane of Mumbai made an online payment of Rs 37.74 lakh. He was the second largest donor after Prudent Electoral Trust. Mangalore resident Michael D’Souza remained at fourth position among the 10 biggest donors. He contributed Rs 30 lakh.
