Aamir Khan expressed pride on 'Missing Ladies' entry in Oscars

Bollywood star Aamir Khan has expressed pride over the film 'Missing Ladies' being selected as India's official entry for Oscars 2025. The film Missing Ladies has been declared as India's official entry in the Best Foreign Film category by the Film Federation of India.

After this news, Aamir released a statement in which he congratulated his ex-wife-director Kiran Rao and the entire team of 'Missing Ladies'. He wrote, “We are all very happy with this news. I am very proud of Kiran and her entire team. I would like to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which chose our film to represent India at the Oscars.”

Aamir said, “My heartfelt gratitude to our audience, our media and the entire film fraternity for their love and support. Thank you to both Jio and Netflix who have been wonderful partners to work with us. I am so happy that all our hard work has paid off. Thank you all. Hopefully The Missing Ladies will be successful in winning the hearts of the members of the Academy.

'Missing Ladies' is a film based on the themes of gender equality and women empowerment in rural India. The film is based on the story of two brides who get unwittingly swapped during a train journey in 2001. Starring Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Nitanshi Goyal, the film has a strong social message along with a touching narrative. Presented by Jio Studios, Missing Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Jyoti Deshpande. The film is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with the screenplay based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Sneha Desai, while additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma.

It is noteworthy that recently 'Missing Ladies' was screened at a special event held at the Supreme Court of India, which was attended by judges, their families and officials. At that event, Rao expressed his gratitude to the Chief Justice for his initiative in screening the film.

The film, released in March, also stars Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Agarwal Sharma. The last date for submission of applications for the 96th Oscars this year is November 14. The shortlist for Best International Feature will be released on December 17 and nominations will be announced on January 17, 2025. The Academy Awards are scheduled to be held on March 02, 2025.
