Aamras or Mango Shake? Know which drink is best for health in summer

Aamras vs. Mango Shake: With the rise in temperature across the country, the trend of mango based beverages has increased significantly in Indian homes. However, dietitians and health experts are advising consumers to exercise caution when consuming the king of fruits, mango. When it comes to choosing between aamras (pure mango pulp) and mango shake (mango mixed with milk and sugar), experts prefer aamras for general health and weight control. But the condition is that sugar should not be mixed in it separately.

Effect on calorie intake and digestive system

Dieticians say that the main difference between these two summer drinks lies in their calorie density and digestion process. A leading clinical nutritionist said that aamras is completely pure pulp of the fruit. It preserves mango’s natural vitamins, dietary fiber and antioxidants without any added fat. In contrast, mango shakes contain milk and often refined sugar, which significantly increases the total calories and fat content. However, medical experts believe that the mixture of milk and mango can sometimes be heavy for the digestive system. While mango juice is easily absorbed and hydrates the body instantly, the thick mango shake takes much longer to digest.

Concerns about added sugar

According to diet experts, sugar should not be added to mango beverages. Mangoes are naturally rich in fructose. In such a situation, adding refined sugar to mango shake can increase the blood glucose level rapidly. According to them, people suffering from lifestyle diseases like type-2 diabetes or obesity should consume mango slices or home-made aamras without sugar.
