AAP Rift Deepens: Bhagwant Mann Calls Raghav Chadha ‘Compromised’ After Rajya Sabha Removal

The internal tensions within the Aam Aadmi Party have escalated after Bhagwant Mann publicly described party MP Raghav Chadha as “compromised,” a day after he was removed as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.

Speaking in ChandigarhMann defended the party’s move, stating that the decision was necessary to maintain discipline and alignment with the party’s legislative priorities.

‘Speaking From Another Station’: Mann Criticises Chadha

Mann questioned Chadha’s recent conduct, suggesting that his priorities did not align with the party’s agenda.

“When a party is focused on key issues like minimum support price (MSP) or raising concerns over central funding, but a member chooses to highlight comparatively minor issues, it raises serious questions,” Mann said.

He added that leaders who deviate from party lines must face consequences, framing the decision as a disciplinary step rather than an internal reshuffle.

Other AAP Leaders Join Criticism

The criticism was echoed by Anurag Dhandawho accused Chadha of avoiding strong positions against the central government.

According to party leaders, concerns include:

  • Limited participation in opposition-led protests and walkouts
  • Hesitation to directly question Narendra Modi
  • Focus on issues perceived as less significant during parliamentary sessions

These remarks have intensified speculation about a deeper rift within the party.

Raghav Chadha Responds: ‘Don’t Mistake My Silence’

Responding to the developments, Chadha defended his approach, stating that he has consistently raised issues affecting everyday citizens.

He questioned whether highlighting public concerns—such as banking charges, taxes, and consumer-related issues—should be viewed negatively.

Chadha also alleged that the party had requested the Rajya Sabha secretariat to restrict his speaking opportunities under its quota, calling the move an attempt to silence him.

“Do not mistake my silence for my defeat,” Chadha said, signalling a firm stance amid the ongoing controversy.

Political Implications and What Lies Ahead

Despite being removed from the leadership role and replaced by Ashok Mittal, Chadha continues to serve as a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab.

The situation reflects:

  • Growing internal disagreements within AAP
  • Diverging approaches on political strategy and messaging
  • Potential long-term impact on party unity ahead of future elections

While the party maintains that the decision is part of internal restructuring, the public exchange of remarks suggests a more complex internal dynamic.
