‘Sonam Wangchuk was picked up like a criminal’

Abhijit Deepke, while addressing the protesters, expressed his displeasure over the manner in which Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the protest site by the police. “They were picked up like criminals. This is an attempt to weaken the movement. So now I am starting an indefinite hunger strike in their place,” he said.

Abhijeet Deepke Accusing the Delhi Police, he said that the Delhi High Court had directed to admit the patient to the hospital only in case of serious condition. However, Sonam Wangchuk had clarified that her condition was stable and the medical report also showed that her condition was satisfactory.

Geetanjali Angmo’s question on the police

Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Angmo also questioned the police action. He said that the Delhi High Court had not ordered hospitalization, but had only directed a routine medical check-up. According to him, currently Sonam Wangchuk is not undergoing any treatment. Only investigations are going on and the government hospital has decided to re-test from an independent laboratory as there are doubts about some of the medical reports given by the government hospital.

Gitanjali Angmo said that Sonam Wangchuk is still on a fast and is only drinking water mixed with salt. Although thankful to the government for bringing him to the hospital, he clarified that the family will take further medical decisions on their own. He also said that although Wangchuk’s condition is weak, he is stable.
