Ranji Trophy viral moment: Abhimanyu Easwaran’s ‘bizarre mental lapse’ run out

Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran’s dismissal during the Ranji Trophy match against Services has gone viral. The veteran was batting at 81 but got run out after leaving the crease for drinks break while the ball was in play.

It was the last ball of the 41st over when the opener misunderstood the situation while seeing other players moving for water.

People on social media called it a “bizarre mental lapse” as the ball deflected off the bowler’s fingertips onto the stumps after a straight drive.

Services appealed immediately and the third umpire confirmed Easwaran was stranded well outside his ground.

However, Easwaran, showing sportsmanship, accepted the decision and did not blame the opposition.

He discussed the incident after the match, saying, “The mistake I made surprised even me. There is no question of being called back because it was entirely my fault.”

The non-striker further explained, “I thought the bowler had collected the ball and instinctively moved forward.”

Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Bengal’s coach, agreed with the captain, calling it “simply a mistake on the batter’s part.”

Bengal ended the day’s play with 340/4 but Easwaran’s departure remains the talk of the town.
