Abhishek Bachchan recently opened up about his parenting experiences with his 13-year-old daughter Aaradhya and highlighted the stark differences between the younger and older generations. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, the actor, who shares Aaradhya with wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, noted that today’s youth operate without a sense of hierarchy, a marked shift from his own upbringing.
“To start with, they have no sense of hierarchy like we did,” he shared. “In our generation, if your parents said something, you just listened. The younger generation is far more inquisitive. They want to know why; they’re not just going to do something because their parents said so.”
Bachchan acknowledged that for today’s kids, age does not automatically equate to authority or wisdom. He jokingly pointed out that with Google at their fingertips, children no longer rely on parents for answers to their questions, instead seeking their parents primarily for love and support.
Reflecting on his own upbringing, Abhishek credited his legendary parents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, for fostering independence in him. “I was given the choice to make my own decisions,” he said, adding that he learned more from observing how they conducted themselves than from their advice.
Drawing comparisons between generations, he noted that while his generation turned to parents for wisdom and experience, the current generation is self-sufficient, seeking justifications for everything. “It’s wonderful,” he remarked, adding that parenting today requires a shift in perspective.
Abhishek also shared that he was somewhat prepared for this shift, having already observed the attitudes of his niece Navya Naveli Nanda and nephew Agastya Nanda. “They are by no means rude,” he clarified. “It’s just that we have to tilt our perspectives a bit.”
On the professional front, Abhishek Bachchan is gearing up for the release of Housefull 5led by Akshay Kumar. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film is slated for a June 6, 2025, release.
