In the elections held on Falta Assembly seat of Bengal, BJP’s Debangshu Panda defeated his opposition CPI(M)’s Shambhu Nath Kurmi by a huge margin of 1,09,021 votes. On this seat, Congress’s Abdur Razzaq Mulla remained at third position with only 10,000 votes while TMC’s Jahangir Khan slipped to fourth position.
After the results, Diamond Harbor MP Abhishek Banerjee has sought clarification from the Election Commission, saying that many discrepancies have been found in this election. He said that for the first time after the elections, only 2 to 4 rounds of counting were completed by 3 pm, whereas this time 21 rounds of counting were completed by 3 pm.
The Election Commission had announced re-polling on April 29 after cases of electoral irregularities came to light in the Falta assembly seat. At many booths here, there were allegations of spraying things like perfume on EVMs, covering election symbols and booth capturing. Let us inform that during re-polling, there was no news of any kind of tension at all 285 booths. In the re-polling, about 86 percent people had cast their votes till 5 pm.
Let us tell you that veteran TMC leader and candidate from Falta, Jahangir Khan had already left the field and announced not to contest the elections. However, despite his announcement, his name was visible on the EVM.
Abhishek Banerjee said that more than 1000 TMC workers were chased away from Falta, while the Election Commission remained blindfolded. Party offices were attacked in broad daylight and the code of conduct was openly violated. Abhishek Banerjee alleged that the election officer who got the names of the people deleted has been made the Chief Secretary of Bengal. The most worrying thing is that except BJP, polling agents of other parties were chased away.
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari said that after 15 years, people have got the freedom to vote, so the whole truth has come out. He said that TMC had become a mafia company. When was public money looted using state machinery? He said that the Diamond Harbor model became the model for TMC’s defeat.
