Abhishek Sharma creates history: In the third T20 match played between India and South Africa, Indian team’s star opener batsman Abhishek Sharma created history. He achieved this feat by hitting a six on the first ball. While playing for India, Abhishek Sharma has become the first batsman in the world to hit sixes thrice on the first ball of the innings.

In the third India-South Africa T20 International match being played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, Abhishek Sharma opened his account by hitting a six on the first ball of Lungi Ngidi. With this, Abhishek started the innings with sixes thrice in international cricket. Abhishek not only opened his account but also that of Team India by hitting a brilliant six.

This is the third time in the year 2025 that Abhishek Sharma has started India’s innings by hitting a six on the first ball. Earlier, he had achieved this feat in the India-UAE Asia Cup match played in Dubai on September 10. After this, on September 21, during the India-Pakistan match in the Super-4 stage of the Asia Cup, he also hit a six on the first ball of Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Rohit Sharma was the first Indian batsman to hit a six on the first ball of India’s innings. He achieved this feat in March 2021 against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After this, Yashasvi Jaiswal joined this special list during the India-Zimbabwe T20 match played at Harare Sports Club in July 2024. At the same time, on 2 February 2025, Sanju Samson also achieved this unique feat by hitting a six on the first ball of India’s innings.

Abhishek Sharma has performed brilliantly in the 40 T20 matches played so far in the year 2025 and has scored a total of 1569 runs. If he scores at least 46 more runs in the remaining two T20 Internationals against South Africa, he will break Virat Kohli’s record of most T20 runs by an Indian batsman in a calendar year.

Virat Kohli played a total of 31 T20 matches for India and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the year 2016, in which he scored 1614 runs. This has so far been the best T20 performance by an Indian batsman in a calendar year. At the same time, the world record for scoring most T20 runs in a calendar year is held in the name of former West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran. Puran had achieved this historic feat in the year 2024 by scoring a total of 2331 runs in 76 T20 matches.
