Abhishek Sharma creates history, equals world record in Dharamsala
NEW DELHI: Abhishek Sharma began India’s chase against South Africa in style, smashing a six off the very first delivery from Lungi Ngidi.
The right-hander pulled a back-of-a-length ball over fine leg with perfect timing, getting off the mark in spectacular fashion.
This marked the third occasion on which Abhishek launched the very first ball of a T20I innings for a six, drawing level with Paul Stirling’s world record. By joining the Irish opener at the top of this exclusive list, Abhishek further underlined his reputation as one of the most fearless starters in T20 internationals.

Among Indian batters, only Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson have also managed a six off the first ball of a T20I innings, putting Abhishek Sharma in elite company.
Chasing a modest target of 118 runs, Sharma continued his aggressive approach, scoring 35 runs off just 18 deliveries. His innings featured three fours and three sixes, providing India with a rapid start and putting the opposition under pressure.
His entertaining innings came to an end when Temba Markram pulled off a brilliant catch off Corbin Bosch, but Sharma’s explosive start had already given India a strong platform in the chase.
