Abhishek Sharma joins Suryakumar Yadav in exclusive six-hitting record
NEW DELHI: India opener Abhishek Sharma may have endured a rare off day with the bat in the second T20I against South Africa in New Chandigarh, but his brief 17-run cameo was enough to etch his name into the record books.
Top-ranked T20I batsman Abhishek joined elite company in T20I history by smashing two sixes during his eight-ball knock, powering his way into a record list dominated by his skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

With 50 sixes in the 2025 calendar year (and counting), the young Indian has become only the second batter from Full Member nations to hit 50-plus sixes in a single year – a milestone previously achieved only by Suryakumar, who blasted 68 sixes in his iconic 2022 season.
100 sixes in a year
The left-handed batsman achieved what no Indian has ever done, becoming the first Indian to hit 100 sixes in a calendar year in T20 cricket. He reached the landmark during Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite Group C clash against Services in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Abhishek brought up the milestone with his second six of the innings, etching his name into the record books in style. He then carried on with a fluent 62 off 34 balls, lacing his knock with eight fours and three sixes, further underscoring his incredible consistency across formats and tournaments.
Before this, the Indian record for most T20 sixes in a single year also belonged to Abhishek – he hit 87 sixes in 2024. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav held the record with 85 sixes in 2022.
