Abu Azmi asked a question on the promotion of Colonel Shrikant Purohit to Brigadier, said – ‘Will this country be run by the Constitution or arbitrarily?’
The Indian Army has promoted Colonel Shrikant Purohit to the rank of Brigadier. In fact, after his acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, it is being considered an important achievement in his military career. However, after this decision, political controversy has also started. Abu Asim Azmi, reacting to this promotion, accused the central government of adopting double standards in the justice system. He said that even if the government has majority in Parliament, the country should run according to the Constitution and law.
In fact, Azmi also raised questions on the investigation process of the Malegaon blast case. He alleges that there was pressure on the government lawyer in this case. He said that if the government lawyer shows sympathy towards the accused, then questions arise on the fairness of justice.
Many witnesses were not presented in court: Abu Asim Azmi
In fact, the SP leader also said that many important witnesses in this case had turned hostile and many witnesses were not produced in the court. According to him, this casts doubt on the justice process and raises questions about the victims getting justice. Abu Azmi cited the example of the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case and accused the government of adopting double standards. He said that in that case, when some accused were acquitted, the government immediately appealed in the High Court. He raised the question why such an appeal was not made after the acquittal of the accused in the Malegaon blast case.
Chief Minister and Home Minister should give a clear statement on this entire matter: Abu Asim Azmi
Along with this, he demanded that the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Maharashtra should give a clear statement on this entire matter and explain why no appeal was made in this matter. Azmi also alleged that different approaches are being adopted in different cases in the country. He said that the case of Anwar Ali, an army personnel, had also come to light, who remained in jail for several years, but after his release, he did not get a job and his outstanding salary. Actually he said that law should be equal for everyone in the country. In the end he questioned the government whether the country would be run according to the principles of the Constitution or on the basis of arbitrary decisions.
