Accident or suicide? Finally the secret of Indian singer Zubeen Garg’s death has been revealed! The investigating officer told the truth in the court.

New Delhi: Singapore police told the coroner’s court on Wednesday that famous Indian singer Zubeen Garg died by drowning in the sea in September last year. Investigation revealed that he was highly intoxicated at that time and had flatly refused to wear the life jacket given for safety. The police have completely rejected the possibility of any kind of conspiracy or wrong intention.

When and how did the incident happen?

Zubeen Garg died on 19 September 2025. 52-year-old Garg was attending a party on a private yacht. This event was just a day before the North East India Festival to be held in Singapore, in which he was going to sing and play. However, he died before this.

The investigating officer informed the court that initially Zubeen was wearing a life jacket. But after some time he took it off himself. When he started getting into the water again, the yacht crew gave him a small life jacket. Unfortunately he refused to accept this too and jumped into the sea without any protection. He started swimming alone in the direction of Lazarus Island.

Rescue efforts failed

After some time, Garg was seen returning towards the yacht. But he suddenly became unconscious and started floating face down in the water. He was quickly brought to the yacht and CPR was started on the spot. Despite this, he had to be declared dead on the same day. Even in the postmortem report, the cause of his death was said to be drowning. It was told that the injuries on the body occurred during rescue and CPR.

Singer was drunk

Toxicology test revealed that the alcohol content in Zubeen’s blood was 333 mg per 100 ml. This level is very dangerous, due to which the person’s balance and thinking ability gets badly affected. The legal limit in Singapore is just 80 mg per 100 ml.

Police seized a 750 ml Scotch whiskey bottle containing 43 percent alcohol from his hotel room, in which only about 25 percent was left. This entire incident has proved to be a tragic accident. The police clarified that there was no collusion or wrong intention of anyone in this.
