Knews Desk– There is important news for bank customers across the country. The impact on the activities of banks will be seen next week i.e. between 11th and 17th May 2026. According to the list of holidays released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), most of the banks will remain closed for only one day during this period, while some regular weekly holidays will also be applicable.

One day there will be a major bank holiday

According to the RBI calendar, all banks across the country will remain closed on 17 May 2026 (Sunday). This is a weekly holiday, due to which all major banks like State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and other private and government banks will not do any work in their branches.

Total 9 bank holidays in the month of May

RBI has announced a total of 9 bank holidays for May 2026, which include national holidays, religious festivals and weekly holidays. The major dates are as follows:

  • May 1: May Day / Buddha Purnima (already closed)
  • May 9: Second Saturday
  • May 17: Sunday (Weekend Holiday)
  • May 23: Fourth Saturday
  • May 24: Sunday
  • 27 May: Bakrid / Eid-ul-Azha
  • May 31: Sunday

Due to these holidays, banking services will be affected for several days in the month.

Holidays can also be held on regional basis

Banking holidays in India are decided not only at the national level but also on the basis of state-wise festivals. Therefore, there may be some additional holidays in different states. Customers are advised to confirm the holidays with their local bank branch in advance.

Digital banking services will remain operational

Despite bank branches remaining closed, digital services will remain fully operational. Customers can easily transact through mobile banking and internet banking.

UPI, IMPS and net banking services will be available 24×7. Apart from this, customers can also avail cash withdrawal, balance check and other services from ATM.

What doesn’t stop when the bank is closed

Many services continue to operate even during bank holidays, such as:

  • online fund transfer
  • UPI payment
  • ATM services
  • mobile banking apps
  • Credit and Debit Card Transactions

However, digital services may be temporarily affected during some scheduled maintenance, about which banks inform the customers in advance.
