In a post on the social media platform X, Rodriguez welcomed the move. He described it as a positive step towards normalizing and strengthening bilateral relations. Along with this, he expressed hope that additional sanctions imposed on Venezuela can be removed to promote economic development and cooperation.

This will lead to rapid economic growth, investment and an effective bilateral cooperation agenda for the benefit of our people, Rodriguez said. Let’s keep working toward building a happier Venezuela for all.

Rodriguez previously served as Vice President under President Nicolás Maduro and was sanctioned by the US in 2018 for targeting members of his government.

US military forces launched a large-scale operation against Venezuela on January 3, 2026, and forcibly captured President Maduro and his wife and took them to New York. After this, Rodriguez assumed the responsibility of acting President and since then Washington is in constant touch with his government.
