Action based on viral video in Khajni, youth who chased Nilgai arrested

Khajni – Gorakhpur. A video that went viral on social media has put a youth from Khajni police station area behind the bars. In the video, a young man riding a horse was seen chasing the Nilgai in the fields and trying to scare it. Taking the matter seriously, Khajni police arrested the accused youth and recovered an air gun from his possession.

According to the police, the video received by the social media cell was investigated. During investigation, during interrogation of the local people, the youth seen in the video was identified as 25-year-old Raj Yadav, son of Laxman Yadav, resident of Bhiti Khoria village of Khajni police station area. After observing the video, it was found that the young man was chasing helpless wildlife like Nilgai in the fields while riding a horse. Besides, it also came to light that he was firing from an air gun, due to which there was a possibility of harm to the wildlife.

Outrage among animal lovers, police filed a case
After the video circulated on social media, there was outrage among local citizens, animal lovers and social organizations. People called it cruelty towards animals and a flagrant violation of the law and demanded action. Police registered case number 191/2026 after prima facie investigation found that a crime was committed under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Arrest made on the instructions of SSP

As part of the campaign being run against criminals and wanted accused on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police, Gorakhpur, Dr. Kaustubh, the police team led by Inspector-in-Charge Jayant Kumar Singh, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police South and Area Officer Khajani, arrested the accused Raj Yadav from Bhiti Khoriya village on Tuesday. Police have also recovered an air gun used in the incident from his possession.

As per police records, the accused has no prior criminal history. The team that made the arrest included Inspector-in-charge Jayant Kumar Singh, Sub-inspector Jitendra Yadav, Constable Vivek Dhuria and Constable Anand Gaur. Police said that further legal action is being taken in the matter.
