“Action was taken against Sanju Samson”: Ex-India player opines on the act of indiscipline by wicket-keeper batter
The Kerala Cricket Association has taken action against Sanju Samson for not reporting to a training camp in Wayanad. He hasn’t been selected for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There hasn’t been any official statement from the player yet, but his fan pages have revealed that the gloveman is nursing a foot injury.
He informed the officials, but they still acted against him. Aakash Chopra has found the situation a bit surprising as Samson had a chance to challenge Rishabh Pant for a place in the one-day team.
“Sanju Samson hasn’t been included in Kerela’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. He didn’t attend a team camp in Wayanad, and the action was taken against him. We don’t get any official information these days, but fan pages on social media say he did tell the association that he wouldn’t be able to attend the camp because he was injured.
“Vijay Hazare was important for him as he has cemented his place in the T20I side. He must have thought of playing in one-day internationals, as Rishahb Pant hasn’t been very impressive in the format.
“You will not play three ODIs at home. You will get a chance in T20Is but then you have Champions Trophy line-up. You will not be selected for that event as you are not in the scheme of things. He missed the bus. A little bit of clarity would have been nice, but sadly, this doesn’t happen these days,” Aakash Chopra said.
Samson was in great form in the last T20I series against South Africa, with two hundreds coming from his bat. In the last two series, he has recorded three tons in the shortest format of the game.
