Adam Copeland’s AEW Return on Hold Due to Hollywood Project
AEW star Adam Copelandformerly known as Edge in WWE, has been sidelined for nearly six months. In May, he faced Malakai Black on Double or Nothing. As the AEW TNT champion, Copeland defended his title in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match. Although he triumphed over Black, he sustained a serious injury.
During the match, he attempted an elbow drop from the top of the cage onto Black. Although the elbow drop seemed fine at first, it was later revealed that Copeland had broken his tibia and required surgery. This injury forced him to relinquish the TNT title he had previously won from his best friend, Christian Cage. After nearly six months out, reports now indicate that Copeland’s Hollywood commitments have delayed his return to the ring.
Adam Copeland cleared for physicality, return delayed by filming
Latest reports from PWInsider reveal that Adam Copeland has been cleared for physical activity. However, he isn’t expected to return to the promotion until the filming for the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians wraps up.
Copeland portrays Ares, the Greek God of War, in the Disney+ show. Several sources have confirmed that the show’s second season is currently in progress and is expected to finish filming in January 2025. At the same time, there is no confirmation of a return date for the AEW star.
Jack Perry won the TNT Championship during Copeland’s absence. However, he lost it to Daniel Garcia over the weekend at AEW Full Gear 2024. Copeland has a history with Garcia from March when the two faced off in a number one contender match for the TNT Championship. Copeland emerged victorious in that bout. Now that Garcia holds the TNT title, it will be interesting to see if Copeland targets the title he never lost upon his return.
