Delhi: The new headquarters of Congress has been inaugurated. Sonia Gandhi inaugurated Indira Bhawan. The party will conduct its work from this office located at 9A Kotla Road, Delhi. However, she will not leave her old office at 24 Akbar Road. Rahul Gandhi's statement is in discussion with the inauguration of Indira Bhawan. He said that his fight is not only with BJP and RSS but with the state of India which they have captured.

 

 

Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi had laid the foundation stone

The foundation stone of the new building was laid by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi in December 2009. Its construction was completed in approximately 15 years.

400 members of Congress Working Committee present

More than 400 prominent leaders will attend the inauguration ceremony of Indira Gandhi Bhawan. Congress Working Committee members, permanent and special invitees, State Congress Committee (PCC) President, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, former Chief Ministers and Union Ministers were also present in it.

Journey from Akbar Road to Kotla Road

Congress made 24 Akbar Road its headquarters in 1978. This was the time when Congress was out of power after the Emergency and the party was divided into two factions. The then MP Gaddam Venkataswamy had given his government residential facility – 24 Akbar Road – to the party.

Congress will not leave 24 Akbar Road

Although the party headquarters will be shifted, the party will not leave 24 Akbar Road completely. It will be used for high-profile meetings. It will be closed for general visits by Congress workers and leaders, but will continue to be used for special meetings.
