Adil Rashid became the first England spinner to take 200 ODI wickets

LeedsLeeds : Spinner Adil Rashid created history on Saturday, becoming the first England spinner to reach the milestone of 200 ODI wickets. Rashid achieved the feat during the second ODI against Australia in Leeds. In his 10 overs, he took 2/42 at an economy rate of 4.20. He took the wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa. In 137 ODIs so far since his debut in the format in 2009, Rashid has taken 201 wickets at an average of 32.22 with a best of 5/27. He has taken four-wicket hauls eight times and five-wicket hauls twice in his ODI career.

Rashid is England's third-highest wicket-taker in ODIs, with fast bowler James Anderson (269 wickets in 194 matches, best figures 5/23) and Darren Gough (234 wickets in 158 matches, best figures 5/44) being the top two wicket-takers.

In the match, England won the toss and opted to bowl first. There was a brilliant opening partnership of 46 runs between Matthew Short (29 runs in 36 balls, with the help of four fours and a six) and Travis Head (29 runs in 27 balls, with the help of four fours and two sixes). After this, Australia lost two wickets quickly, before captain Mitchell Marsh (60 runs in 59 balls, with the help of six fours and three sixes) dominated the match after this partnership, but wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey struggled from one end and scored 74 runs in 67 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. Australia were bowled out for 270 in 44.4 overs. The best bowler for England was Brydon Carse (3/75). Rashid, Jacob Bethell and Matthew Potts also took two wickets each.
