Dehradun: While reviewing the progress of the campaign against drug trafficking in the state on Wednesday, T Murugeshan, additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order, Uttarakhand) reviewed the progress in this regard with both the zones- Kumaon and Garhwal divisions. He made it clear to the officers concerned that a zero-tolerance policy should be adopted towards drugs-trafficking.
“Eradication of drugs is not only our constitutional but also social responsibility. All district in-charges should coordinate with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and continuously carry forward the action against drugs,” Murugeshan told the officers concerned.
Necessary guidelines to put a check on drug-menace
According to a press release, the officers concerned were given necessary guidelines to put an effective check on the drug menace. The ADG Murugeshan told the officers concerned to take prompt action against criminals involved in drug peddling in their districts concerned. Instructions were given to identify the habitual criminals involved in drug trafficking and act against them.
The ADG (Crime, Law and Order) Murugeshan gave emphasis on coordinating with voluntary and other social organizations and creating public awareness against drug abuse at the police station level.
Seizure of illegal liquors
According to the police, 7935 litres of illegal liquor worth about 37 lakhs and 217 kg of illegal narcotics worth about 8.8 crores have been seized in the state so far ahead of the urban local bodies’ elections. In preventive action, 7321 people have been challaned in 970 cases under Section 126/135 of BNSS and 1152 such anti-social elements have been restrained.
Visit the sensitive polling booths
The SPs and their subordinates should visit the sensitive and highly sensitive polling booths. They will prepare an action plan accordingly. While effectively checking the barriers established in the districts, other means including CCTV should also be used to arrange for video coverage.
Ensure communal harmony
The SPs have been asked to pay special attention to maintain the communal harmony. “Keep a close watch on even the small incidents. Legal action should be taken against those who spread rumours and anti-social elements who affect law and order,” the release said. The release also mentioned that the process of depositing licensed weapons should be kept in practice as per the instructions mentioned in the Model Code of Conduct.
