Afghan army attacked Pakistani posts, rapid firing on Durand Line… war like situation on the border.
New Delhi : Once again a war-like situation has arisen on the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan. On Tuesday evening, the Afghan army started heavy firing targeting the Pakistani military posts located on the border. This attack has been done in response to the air strikes carried out by Pakistan in the early hours of Sunday. This conflict has endangered the peace of the entire region. People living in the border areas are in panic and heavy weapons are being used by both sides.
Fierce retaliation on the border
Afghan forces attacked Pakistani positions near the Durand Line in Nazian and Darbaba districts of Nangarhar province. According to local sources, many posts of Pakistani Army have been completely destroyed in these attacks. Although the Afghan Taliban has not yet given any official statement on this, ground reports suggest that this action was well planned. After Sunday’s air attack, Afghanistan had already warned of a strong response, which has now been implemented.
Outrage arising from air strikes
The main reason for the tension is the airstrike carried out by the Pakistani Army in the border areas of Afghanistan early on Sunday. Pakistan had claimed that it had taken this step to destroy the bases of terrorist organizations like TTP. But Afghanistan completely rejected these claims. Kabul says that Pakistan targeted residential areas instead of military bases, due to which innocent women and children lost their lives. This resentment has ignited gunpowder on the border.
To protect territorial integrity…
After Sunday’s attacks, Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry had made it clear that it would go to any extent to protect its territorial integrity. He had said that the attack by Pakistan is a violation of their sovereignty and they reserve the right to respond to it. Tuesday’s military action is a result of this official stance. Afghan forces have targeted only those places of Pakistani Army from where cross border activities were suspected.
Terrorism and Sanctuaries Controversy
Pakistan has been continuously alleging that Afghanistan’s land is being used for terrorist attacks against it. Islamabad argues that organizations like TTP are finding safe haven there. Due to these allegations, serious military tension had arisen between the two countries in October last year also. Then somehow ceasefire was achieved with the mediation of Arab countries. But the latest airstrikes and subsequent retaliatory firing have almost ruined that peace agreement.
Increasing military gathering on the border
At present, both the countries have increased their military patrolling and vigil around the Durand Line. Heavy artillery has been deployed at many sensitive points of the border. Families living in Nangarhar and surrounding districts have been advised to move to safe places in view of security. According to local reports, intermittent firing is still going on at many places. If this tension is not reduced at the diplomatic level, then this sporadic skirmish can turn into a major regional war.
