The visit was more emotional than political, as Rahul reached a place which has a deep connection with his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After 42 years, Rahul Gandhi reached the place where his grandmother once stood.

Moments spent at the last end of India ‘Indira Point’

Rahul Gandhi has shared a beautiful video of his visit on social media. In the video, he is seen at ‘Indira Point’, the southernmost tip of India. Reliving old memories in his post, Rahul wrote, “On February 19, 1984, Indira Gandhi ji stood at this lighthouse, which is the last corner of India. Till date, she is the only Prime Minister of the country who has visited here.”

Standing at the same place after 42 years, Rahul looked quite mesmerized. He further wrote that he had the privilege of standing at the place where his grandmother once stood. Praising the natural beauty of the Nicobar Islands, Rahul said that India is a great country and its shores are as wonderful as its heart.

Tribute to grandmother and shared video

In the video shared, Rahul Gandhi is seen standing amidst the waves of the sea and admiring the beauty there. At Indira Point, he bowed to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi with folded hands and paid his heartfelt tribute. Let us tell you that this southernmost point of India has been named ‘Indira Point’ in honor of Indira Gandhi.

Heard the problems of Nicobarese community

During his visit, Rahul Gandhi not only refreshed his memories but also met the local people. He held a meeting with Nicobarese community leaders at the community hall in Rajiv Nagar, Campbell Bay. During this, local people expressed their concerns regarding the mega infrastructure project of the Central Government worth Rs 92,000 crore.

In the meeting, Rahul said clearly, “I have not come here to give a speech, but to listen to your problems. I assure you that we will fight every possible battle for your rights.” He told that when the people of Nicobar had met him in Delhi, they had promised to come to the island, which they have fulfilled today.

Rahul met ex-servicemen and Congress workers

During this visit to Andaman and Nicobar, Rahul Gandhi participated in an important party meeting in Port Blair. Apart from this, he also met the ex-servicemen and their families settled in Gandhi Nagar and inquired about their condition. Rahul’s visit is taking place at a time when there is tension between the local people and the government regarding the Great Nicobar Project.
