Government telecom company BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is ready to please its users once again. BSNL, famous for offering budget-friendly recharge plans, is now preparing to fulfill the dream of affordable smartphones for its customers. This strategic move has also surprised private telecom giants Airtel and Jio, which have been targeting users with budget smartphone offerings. To achieve this goal, BSNL has partnered with Karbonn, which was once popular but has now disappeared from the market.
Affordable smartphone for users
BSNL recently announced its partnership with Karbonn through its official social media handle. In a post to mark its foundation day, the company revealed that it has signed an MoU with Karbonn under the “India 4G Companion Policy”. This collaboration aims to provide BSNL users with exclusive smartphones at extremely affordable prices, ensuring that they can use 4G devices without burning a hole in their wallet.
Carbon's revival after declining market share
Karbonn, a popular player in the Indian smartphone market, had a significant presence in the feature phone and Android smartphone segments more than a decade ago. However, with the entry of Chinese smartphone brands, Karbonn's market share declined. Now, the brand is making a comeback with the support of BSNL, taking advantage of the state-owned telecom company's huge user base.
JioPhone's rival
Like Jio's budget-friendly offerings, BSNL plans to provide affordable 4G feature phones to its users through Karbonn. This initiative is part of BSNL's efforts to enhance nationwide connectivity and provide better services to its customers. The telco is also working on upgrading its network infrastructure and has started testing 5G services to remain competitive in the market.
