Alcatel Submarine Networks, the French co-owned company responsible for laying the cable, has issued instructions to its customers to prepare for emergencies. It is said that more than 95% of the world’s internet traffic is carried through hundreds of fiber optics cables laid on the seabed under the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. That means all your digital activities like email, video calls, cloud services, financial transactions, streaming videos depend on cables. These cables connect the massive data centers set up in the Gulf region by companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google to billions of users around the world. So if war affects these cables, it can affect the entire world. Internet may be disrupted in many other countries including India.
