After LPG now online order expensive! Zomato made delivery expensive; 19% increase in platform fees
Iran war In the background, ordering food online has become expensive. Food delivery platform Zomato has increased its platform fee by ₹2.4 per order for users. Earlier the platform fee was ₹12.50, which has now been increased to ₹14.90 excluding GST. With GST of ₹2.68, Zomato’s platform fee has come down to ₹17.58. This is the second increase in platform fees in about seven months.
The company had earlier hiked its platform fees in September. Zomato’s rival Swiggy charges a platform fee of ₹14.99 per order, inclusive of taxes. Zomato’s platform fee hike comes at a time when urban mobility startup Rapido has launched its ‘Only’ food delivery service in Bangalore. The company says that apart from the delivery fee, it will not charge any additional fees to the customer or the restaurant.

Eternal’s shares rise
Meanwhile, Eternal’s shares rose three percent during trading on Zomato’s platform fee hike. The stock rose 1.49% to close at ₹232.30 on BSE. The company’s stock has fallen 30 percent in the past six months. Nifty has fallen by 9 percent and BSE Sensex by 10 percent during the same period. The stock is currently trading below its 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages.
As per December quarter results, the company’s consolidated profit rose 72.88 percent to Rs 102 crore as compared to Rs 59 crore in the same period last year. However, the company’s operating revenue during the same period nearly tripled to Rs 16,315 crore as compared to Rs 5,405 crore in the same period last year. In March 2025, Zomato rebranded itself as ‘Eternal’.
The company’s stock has gained approximately 7.55% in the past week. Its shares have declined approximately 18.78% over the past three months. Furthermore, its shares have declined approximately 30.98% over the past six months. Its market capitalization is approximately ₹2,24,177.65 crore.
What is the platform fee?
This charge is an additional charge in addition to GST, restaurant charges and delivery charges. Zomato delivers millions of orders every day. As a result, even this small increase in platform fees can generate profits of crores of rupees for the company.
