After Mukesh Ambani, now Ola set to challenge Zepto Cafe, Swiggy Bolt, Blinkit’s Bistro by launching…., plans to deliver food in…
Ola’s venture into this space reflects its commitment to diversifying and innovating in the urban mobility and delivery sectors.
Bhavish Aggarwal led Ola is gearing up to launch a 10-minute food delivery service under its ‘Ola Dash’ initiative, starting in Bengaluru, according to a report by CNBC. This move will position Ola against competitors like Zepto Cafe, Swiggy Bolt, and Blinkit’s Bistro, which specialize in delivering food within 10 minutes from quick-service restaurant chains.
According to media reports, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries might also enter in the quick commerce space in India, aiming to compete with companies like Swiggy and Zepto.
What Is Ola Dash?
Ola Dash, introduced earlier this year via the ONDC platform in June, is Ola’s foray into the food delivery sector. Currently, the service is available in selected areas of Bengaluru and can be accessed through the food delivery section on the main Ola app.
As per the app listing, the service includes only specific restaurants within a 1-kilometer radius. While the company has yet to make an official announcement about its 10-minute food delivery feature, it marks a significant step in the rapidly growing quick-delivery market.
Ola’s Unique Services
Ola has been diversifying its services beyond cab aggregation over the past year. In October last year, the company launched ‘Ola Parcel’ in Bengaluru, offering parcel delivery within the city using its electric scooters. The pricing for parcel delivery was structured based on distance: ₹25 for up to 5 kilometers, ₹50 for 10 kilometers, ₹75 for 15 kilometers, and ₹100 for 20 kilometers.
Additionally, Ola began operations of electric bike taxis in Bengaluru last year, marking the first time the company introduced electric vehicles for bike taxi services. While Ola had previously operated bike taxis in the city, the shift to electric models was a significant development. Using Ola’s S1 electric scooters, the bike taxis were priced at ₹25 for 5 kilometers and ₹50 for 10 kilometers.
The trend of 10-minute food delivery has gained traction, with several food and grocery delivery platforms introducing specialized apps for quick-service delivery. Companies have adopted varied approaches to meet the demand, including partnering with nearby restaurants or offering ready-to-eat items like samosas, sandwiches, and coffee through their in-house cafes.
