After almost 4 decades, once again a no-confidence motion came before the Lok Sabha Speaker, this is a matter of regret for both parliamentary politics and the House: Amit Shah
New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla. During this, he said that, this is not a normal incident, after almost 4 decades, once again a no-confidence motion has come before the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. This is a regrettable incident for both parliamentary politics and the House. Because the Speaker does not belong to any party, he belongs to the House.

He further said, I want to tell the entire House that when the present Speaker was appointed, the leaders of both the parties worked together to seat him. This means that both the party and the opposition have to provide a kind of free environment to the Speaker to discharge his responsibilities and also support him to discharge his responsibilities. But today any disagreement can be expressed on the decision of the Speaker, but under the rules of the Lok Sabha, the Speaker’s decisions are considered final.
On the contrary, the opposition raised question marks on the integrity of the Speaker. This Lok Sabha is the biggest panchayat of India’s democracy, and not only in India but throughout the world, the credibility of our democracy has been built, its dignity has been built and the whole world accepts this reputation of democracy. But when the head of this Panchayat and his integrity are questioned, then not only in the country but in the entire world, our democratic process is questioned. But here questions of doubt were raised on him.
The Home Minister further said, I want to tell that for 75 years, these two houses have made the foundation of our democracy deeper than hell, but today the opposition has raised a question mark on this credibility. The House runs on mutual trust. The Speaker of the House, for both the party and the opposition, is the custodian. That’s why rules have been made. This house is not a fair; Here one has to follow the rules. No one, no matter who he is, has the right to say things which are not permitted by the rules of the House.
He said, we have also been in the opposition, thrice a motion of no confidence was brought on the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, but the Bharatiya Janata Party and the NDA never brought a motion of no confidence on the Speaker of the Lok Sabha while being in the opposition. We have worked to protect the dignity of the post of Speaker and have also demanded protection from the Speaker for our legal rights and constitutional rights. Also said, the proposal that came three times earlier came when the Congress Party was in power, but we never brought it. It was a tradition all three times that when the no-confidence motion on the Speaker was discussed, the Speaker would not take his place at this place. But Shri Om Birla ji is the only speaker who has not come on moral grounds ever since he nominated him.
