After Perth defeat, ‘sore’ Mitchell Marsh doubtful as bowler at Adelaide Test
New Delhi: Mitchell Marsh’s ability to bowl in the second Test against India is uncertain even though Australia have ruled out making any major changes in the squad that went down by 295 runs in the first Test in Perth.
Marsh bowled in both innings of their heavy loss, the fist in the opening match of a home Test series since 2018. Afterwards, Australia skipper Pat Cummins revealed Marsh has niggling injuries that he suffered in their white-ball tour of the United Kingdom last year.
It resulted in March finishing the Perth Test a little “sore,” Cummins said. Marsh bowled a total of 17 overs in two innings, claiming three wickets while conceding 77 runs.
“Has he pulled up okay? We’ll wait and see,” Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said after Australia’s first loss in five Tests at the new Perth Stadium.
“We knew that Mitch (Marsh) was slightly underdone coming in, but I thought the performance in the first innings was satisfactory.”
Australia rule out changes
In spite of the drubbing they received, McDonald has ruled out nay major changes to the squad for the second Test in Adelaide from October 6.
It means if Marsh isn’t deemed fit to bowl, the hosts would have to find a way to squeeze out more overs from their fringe bowlers.
At Perth, Marnus Labuschagne went wicketless in 6.3 overs, conceding 38 runs while Travis Head too couldn’t claim a wicket in five overs for 26 runs during India’s second innings when they scored 487/6.
“The people in that changeroom (for Perth Test) are the same people that will be in Adelaide,” McDonald said.
“It (making changes) is always a consideration, wherever you go in the world in terms of the personnel you pick for conditions.”
