After petrol, now it’s diesel’s turn! Modi government is bringing a new formula of 15%

After mixing ethanol in petrol, now Modi government is preparing to take a revolutionary step regarding diesel. The government aims to promote the use of alternative fuels in the country, so that our dependence on imported fuel can be reduced. In this direction, the government is now planning to allow mixing of ‘Isobutanol’ up to 15% in diesel.

Gadkari told the formula of ‘isobutanol’

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has indicated this big change. Gadkari says that it is not technically possible to mix ethanol directly into diesel, hence the government is working rapidly on the technology of making isobutanol from ethanol. This new option will not only replace diesel but will also strengthen the energy security of the country. Gadkari said that its pilot projects have been very successful and the government has also successfully run generator sets on 100% ethanol and isobutanol.

Why is isobutanol special?

Isobutanol is being considered as the ‘next generation biofuel’ of the future. According to experts, its energy density is very high, which means that it can keep pace with existing diesel engines much better. The biggest thing is that it causes much less pollution than traditional biofuel. If India uses it on a large scale, the huge expenditure on importing crude oil can be reduced to a great extent.

Big clarification from the Ministry on E20 also

This decision has come at a time when many misconceptions were being spread regarding mixing 20% ethanol (E20) in petrol. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has completely rejected these claims and clarified that this program is completely based on scientific studies and safety standards. The ministry also clarified that only that rice is used to make ethanol, which is left after meeting the food needs of the country, hence there is no need to worry about food safety.
