Virat Kohli’s team’s revenge owner, Birla Group and Blackstone together bought RCB, became the most expensive franchise

RCB Sold Out: There has been a major change in the ownership of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), one of the most popular teams of IPL. This team, which was the current defending champion, has now been bought by a consortium of new investors. Aditya Birla Group, Times Group, Bolt Ventures and Blackstone together have bought this franchise for about $ 1.78 billion (about Rs 16,706 crore). This deal was completed on Tuesday and became a topic of discussion in the cricket world.

According to reports, the deal was done with United Spirits Limited, which is a subsidiary of Diageo. Under this deal, 100% stake of RCB will be transferred. The special thing is that along with the men’s team, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) team is also included in this agreement, due to which the ownership of both the teams will now be with the new group.

Aryaman Birla will take command of the team

In the new ownership structure, Aryaman Vikram Birla has been made chairman, while Times Group’s Satyan Gajwani will play the role of vice chairman. Apart from this, David Blitzer (Bolt Ventures) and Viral Patel (Blackstone) are also important stakeholders in the consortium. However, this deal is not considered completely final yet. It is yet to get approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Competition Commission of India and other regulatory bodies.

Commenting on the acquisition, Kumar Mangalam Birla said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has taken cricket to new heights in the last two decades and it is a matter of pride for him to be a part of a prestigious team like RCB. Whereas Satyan Gajwani described RCB as a strong and popular brand and talked about taking it to the global level.

RCB overtook Rajasthan Royals

It is noteworthy that recently the ownership of Rajasthan Royals has also changed, which was bought by American businessman Kal Somani for a huge amount. In this way, changing the owners of two big IPL teams in the same day is being considered historic.
