After shameful departure from T20 World Cup, Kangaroo team will go through this ‘Agnipariksha’, important decision of Cricket Australia.

Cricket Australia Will Conduct Forensic Review Of National Team: The Australian cricket team is ready to undergo a ‘forensic review’ of its disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, as the team, troubled by injuries, was eliminated in the group stage of this global tournament being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The 2021 champion Kangaroo team was eliminated after losing to Sri Lanka and weak team Zimbabwe. They still have one match left against Oman in Pallekele on Friday 20th February, but it will not mean much.

Defeated by these 2 teams

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have reached the Super 8s as Australia failed to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2009. Kangaroo team selector Tony Dodamed said that a full review of the performance will be done after the players return home. According to cricket.com.au, Dodemed said, ‘The way the tournament has progressed, it is really disappointing.’

Many players were injured

Dodamed added: ‘But we will need some time, and we will take some time, once we complete our last commitments – it is important that we finish strongly against Oman on Friday, and then we will come back and analyze it fully.’ The team was without its frontline pace attack after Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood were out of the tournament due to injuries, while Mitchell Starc has announced his international retirement from this format.

Injury spoiled the balance

After this, the team also lost captain Mitchell Marsh due to injury during the tournament, due to which the balance of the team deteriorated to a great extent. The in-form Steve Smith was not selected and could only come in as cover after Hazlewood was ruled out just hours before the defeat to Zimbabwe. Australia is co-host of T20 World Cup 2028 with New Zealand.

Preparation for the next edition

Dodamed said, ‘We want to win every World Cup, no matter where it is. Obviously, the next one is at home. We would like to do well at home. We have a commitment against Oman in about 48 hours and we really want to finish well. We will do necessary planning keeping 2028 in mind; Meanwhile, we have the 50-over World Cup in 2027. When we get time and space, all these things will be planned, and we can look at it in a more forensic manner by removing the emotional things from it.
