After the elections in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP became active in the valley, aims to make 1 lakh members in every district through membership drive.
After the completion of assembly elections in Kashmir, BJP has once again become active in Kashmir Valley. The party has decided to start a membership drive after the elections in the valley. Party leader Ashok Bhatt informed that their target is to make 1 lakh people members in every district. Membership will be offered first through virtual and then offline mode.
Ashok Bhatt told that there are already 6 lakh workers in Kashmir. After that this figure reached around 16 lakh and now it has to be increased further through this membership campaign. He said that a target has been set to create about 8,000 workers in every assembly constituency of the valley.
BJP is weak in Kashmir valley
BJP did not get success as per expectations in the assembly elections held after removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and abolition of special status of the state. The party had hoped that after the removal of Article 370, it would get benefits in the valley, but the situation was opposite. Even in the Lok Sabha elections, the party did not field any candidate in the valley.
The party remained in the same condition in the assembly elections also. BJP had fielded its candidates only on 19 seats, while the party did not field any candidate on 28 seats. Opposition parties, National Conference and PDP had sarcastically said that BJP is not getting candidates in the valley, but the party had called it a strategic decision and said that these seats have been left out due to this politics.
Face defeat in assembly elections
BJP had to face defeat in the recently held state assembly elections. In the 90-member Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference got 42 seats, BJP 29 seats, Congress 6 and PDP 3 seats.
BJP was the largest party in terms of vote percentage, it got 25.64 percent votes in the state, while National Conference got 23.43 percent votes. BJP performed well in Jammu region, but the party could not perform well on 47 seats in Kashmir, due to which it remained away from majority in the state.
