After the rebellion of cricketers, BCB removed director Nazmul Islam, the organization of BPL was in danger.
Dhaka, January 15. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to bow down to the rebellion of the cricketers and has stripped its director M Nazmul Islam of all official responsibilities with immediate effect. In fact, amid the controversy over the participation of the Bangladeshi team in the proposed T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka next month, Nazmul’s objectionable comments had angered the players and they had threatened to withdraw from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) currently going on in the country.
The decision was taken on Thursday by BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, who will now serve as the acting chairman of the finance committee until further orders.
Step taken in the best interest of the organization – BCB
The board said the move has been taken “in the best interests of the organisation” to ensure stability at a crucial time for Bangladesh cricket. ‘After reviewing the recent developments and in the best interest of the organization, the BCB President has decided to relieve Nazmul Islam of his responsibilities as Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect,’ the board said in a media release.
Bangladeshi cricketers boycott BPL, BCB issues notice to director Nazmul Islam
BCB had to take this drastic step because Bangladesh Cricketers Welfare Association (CWAB) had issued a tough ultimatum a day earlier, warning that if Nazmul did not step down first, the players would boycott the BPL.
Amid warnings from players today Both BPL matches had to be postponed
The effect of CWAB’s warning was also seen today, when the teams did not reach for the toss for the match between Noakhali Express and Chittagong Royals at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Ultimately the match had to be postponed. After that the second match of the day between Rajshahi Warriors and Sylhet Titans also had to be postponed. Due to this conflict, the organization of the league itself was in danger.
