Yashasvi Jaiswal admitted to hospital due to acute gastroenteritis after SMAT match

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was taken to the hospital after suffering severe stomach pain on December 16, 2025. The pain had increased after Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) Super League match against Rajasthan at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Reports, including from journalist Devendra Pandey of The Indian Express, have confirmed that Jaiswal has been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis at Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad. He was given IV medication, underwent ultrasound and CT scans, and was advised medication and rest. Doctors are hopeful that they will recover with proper care, as this condition usually resolves within a few days.

Despite feeling uncomfortable during the game, Jaiswal opened for Mumbai and scored 15 runs (three fours) in 16 balls while chasing the target of 217, before being caught by Ashok Sharma. Thanks to Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten 72 runs in 41 balls and Sarfaraz Khan’s explosive 73 runs in 22 balls, Mumbai won by three wickets in 18.1 overs. However, this win was not enough for Mumbai to qualify for the SMAT finals.

Jaiswal had performed well earlier in the tournament, including a century against Haryana, scoring 145 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 168.6.

His availability for Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy opener against Sikkim on December 24 is uncertain, depending on his recovery. With no immediate international commitments – India’s next limited-overs series against New Zealand begins on January 11, 2026 – Jaiswal has time to regain fitness.

The incident highlights the health risks in high-intensity domestic cricket, and the 23-year-old is being wished a speedy recovery.
