During India’s batting in the final, Shivam hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in the last over, taking the team beyond 250 and slogans of ‘Dube, Dube’ echoed from lakhs of fans in the stadium.

After the match was over, when other players of the team took flights and returned to their respective homes, Shivam Dubey decided to go straight to his family by train. Their four-year-old son Ayaan and two-year-old daughter Mehvish were waiting at home in Mumbai.

Since all the flights from Ahmedabad to Mumbai were booked after the finals and the road journey was long, Shivam booked a ticket in Third AC coach of Sayaji Express. He wore a cap, mask and full sleeve T-shirt to ensure the safety of himself, his wife Anjum and a friend.

Shivam and his family waited in the car at the station 5 minutes before the departure of the train and as soon as the time came, they quickly boarded the train. During ticket checking, TT tried to identify him, but Shivam’s wife easily avoided the question. Even during the eight-hour train journey, Shivam was not recognized by anyone when he got up to go to the washroom.

On reaching Mumbai, Shivam Dubey took help of the police. The policemen were surprised when they told that they were coming by train. The police gave them escort, which made it easy and safe to get out.

This journey of Shivam Dubey was as wonderful as his tournament journey. He scored a total of 235 runs in the tournament, hitting 17 sixes and 15 fours at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 169. His performance while handling the middle order proved decisive in the team’s victory.

Shivam Dubey showed that not only on the field but also off the field, big decisions can be taken with tact and love for the family. This unique train journey of his became inspirational for the fans also.
