Afzal Khan reveals cold welcome from Karachi TV actors

Veteran Pakistani actor Afzal Khan, famously known as Jan Rambo, has spoken about his experience moving to Karachi and facing a lukewarm response from some local television actors. Afzal, known for his comedy roles in Guest House, Chor Machay Shor, Munda Bigra Jaey, and Hathi Mera Saathi, gained popularity for his humor and charm. He earned the nickname “Jan Rambo” due to his resemblance to Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone.

Afzal, along with his wife Sahiba and their sons, has been living in Karachi for around a year. The family is now actively involved in the television industry. During a recent interview on Nadia Khan’s show Rise and Shine via Zoom, Afzal opened up about the lack of warmth they received from many actors in the city.

“Let me tell you an interesting thing. We have worked with almost everyone in Karachi, and most are our friends. But surprisingly, no one welcomed us except one or two people,” he said. He praised Asma Abbas for being welcoming and acknowledged Behroze Sabzwari, Javeria Saud, and Saud Qasmi for helping the family settle down. “They helped us find a house and supported us in every way. Apart from them, no one reached out or invited us,” he added.

Afzal also talked about the struggles his wife Sahiba faced. She opened a salon in Karachi but had to close it after losing clients and failing to generate income. “When she came here, there was no activity at the salon. Eventually, she had to shut it down,” Afzal explained.

Despite these challenges, the family continues to focus on their work. Afzal mentioned that they still enjoy socializing but mainly spend time with the few colleagues who welcomed them warmly. He said they often party with Javeria Saud and Saud Qasmi, who have been like family to them.
