Agarkar gave clarification on Pandya’s vice-captaincy

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team for next year’s T-20 World Cup has been announced. The unexpected selection of Ishan Kishan and non-inclusion of Shubman Gill in this list has become a big topic. Along with this, Akshar Patel has been given the post of vice-captain, which was a surprising decision. Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar discussed the reasons behind this decision and explained the reason behind Hardik Pandya staying out of the race for vice-captaincy.
Hardik out of the race for vice-captaincy
Hardik Pandya has previously been the captain of India’s T20 team and was given the same responsibility in the T20 World Cup 2024. But this time he is out of the race for vice-captaincy. According to information received from sources, Hardik’s name was in discussion for vice-captaincy, but as per the final decision, Axar Patel was given this role.
What did Ajit Agarkar say?
Selector Ajit Agarkar told that when Shubman Gill was out of the team, Akshar Patel had played the role of vice-captain. Due to Gill’s absence, it was necessary to give the post of vice-captain to someone else. Agarkar said in the press conference that Shubman was earlier the vice-captain, but now in his absence this responsibility was given to Akshar. Akshar was also the vice-captain during England’s tour of India, so he has got this role again.
Hardik could have proved to be a better option
However, Hardik Pandya could have been a better choice for this post. He has enough experience and has handled the Indian team firmly. Pandya has also won titles in the IPL under the leadership of Gujarat Titans, which shows his potential. But perhaps considering his past injuries the selectors preferred Axar Patel.
