Ahmedabad: PM Modi and German Chancellor on the banks of Sabarmati, started ‘Kite Mahotsav’ by paying obeisance to Bapu at Gandhi Ashram.
Ahmedabad. The land of Gujarat on Monday witnessed the deepening relations between India and Germany. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the historic Gandhi Ashram located on the banks of Sabarmati river. This union of simplicity and diplomacy gave a new height to India’s cultural and political credibility at the international level.

Tribute to Bapu in Gandhi Ashram-
Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Frederick Merz paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Both the leaders visited ‘Hridaykunj’, where Bapu had spent important years of his life.
Review of the renovation: PM Modi took stock of the progress of the renovation work of the ashram in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and held a high-level meeting with the officials.
Flight of diplomacy in the colorful sky: Kite Festival-
After Gandhi Ashram, both the leaders reached Sabarmati Riverfront, where Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the ‘International Kite Festival 2026’.
Cultural welcome: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel warmly welcomed the German Chancellor. The Prime Minister and the Chancellor interacted with the representatives from India and abroad and enjoyed this vibrant tradition of Gujarat.
Bilateral meeting: There will be a big brainstorming in Gandhinagar-
After the Kite Festival, Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Marj will leave for Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. An important bilateral meeting will be held here between the two countries.
Main Agenda: In this meeting, major agreements regarding trade, advanced technology, industrial cooperation and strategic relations can be signed.
Importance of travel-
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reached Ahmedabad late on Sunday night. Amidst India’s growing economic relations with Germany, this visit is being considered extremely important not only from the business point of view but also in the current scenario of Russia-Ukraine crisis and global security.
