Ahsoka Season 2 Release updates: Here’s everything we know so far
The journey through the World Between Worlds is taking a little longer than initially anticipated. While Star Wars fans were hoping for a late 2026 return to Peridea, Lucasfilm and Disney have officially shifted the timeline. Chief creative officer Dave Filoni is taking his time to map out the next major chapter of the MandoVerse, setting the stage for a massive galactic conflict.
Ahsoka Season 2 Release Window
Ahsoka Season 2 will officially premiere in early 2027 on Disney+.
The updated release window was formally announced by lead actress Rosario Dawson on stage during Disney’s Upfront presentation in May 2026. While the series was initially expected to land on the 2026 slate, the push to 2027 ensures a massive year for Star Wars, especially with Star Wars Celebration returning to Los Angeles in April 2027 and the 50th anniversary of A New Hope landing that May.
The sophomore season will consist of 8 episodes.
Filming and Production Status
Despite the delayed premiere window, physical production on the series is completely finished. Principal photography officially mobilized in April 2025—shifting its physical production footprint from Los Angeles to the United Kingdom—and wrapped entirely in October 2025.
The long gap between the wrap party and the 2027 premiere is due to an incredibly intensive post-production phase. Because the narrative largely takes place in an entirely separate galaxy and features ancient, mystical ruins, the industrial visual effects and StageCraft volume work require over a year of rendering and editing to perfect.
Ahsoka Season 2 Cast News
The upcoming season features an emotional return of franchise legends, alongside a highly anticipated recasting to honor a fallen member of the Star Wars family.
The Recasting of Baylan Skoll
Following the tragic passing of Ray Stevenson in 2023, fans wondered how the show would handle the unfinished storyline of the enigmatic mercenary. Lucasfilm has officially confirmed that Game of Thrones alumnus Rory McCann (renowned for his role as The Hound) has joined the cast to take over the role of Baylan Skoll for Season 2, allowing the character’s pursuit of the Mortis gods to continue.
Confirmed Returning Cast
- Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
- Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren
- Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla

Legendary Returns
At Star Wars Celebration, Dave Filoni delighted the crowd by confirming that Hayden Christensen will once again return as Anakin Skywalker (appearing as a Force Ghost to continue guiding his former Padawan on Peridea). Additionally, the season will feature a live-action appearance from Admiral Ackbar, bringing the iconic Rebel leader face-to-face with Thrawn’s strategic brilliance.
Ahsoka Season 2 Plot Details
The narrative blueprint for Season 2 will pick up from the multi-galaxy separation that closed out the first season, directly setting up the broader stakes for Dave Filoni’s upcoming live-action Star Wars feature film.
The storyline will split across two entirely different galaxies:
Stranded on Peridea: Ahsoka and Sabine remain exiled on the desolate world of Peridea alongside the Noti. The upcoming episodes will explore Ahsoka’s deeper understanding of why the Force drew her there, heavily diving into the ancient mythology of the Mortis Gods (The Father, The Son, and The Daughter) whose giant stone statues were discovered by Baylan Skoll. Meanwhile, Shin Hati will be seen trying to command the wandering bandits of the wasteland, while Baylan hunts down the dark, primordial power calling to him from the planet’s core.
The New Republic Under Threat: Back in the main Star Wars galaxy, Ezra Bridger successfully hitched a ride home, but so did Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Great Mothers. Season 2 will follow Thrawn as he reunites with the Imperial Remnant to systematically dismantle the fragile New Republic. Hera Syndulla will find herself in a desperate defensive posture, trying to convince a skeptical galactic senate of the impending tactical nightmare, while Ezra teams up with the New Republic fleet—and Admiral Ackbar—to mount a counter-strategy before the Heir to the Empire consolidates total control.
