AI keeps an eye on dust pollution in Delhi, DUST Portal 2.0 will be launched soon, monitoring will be done with AI cameras and PM sensors.
Delhi government is going to take the help of modern technology in the direction of making the capital a clean, green and world class city. The government is preparing to launch DUST Portal 2.0 soon for effective control on dust pollution. In this regard, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reviewed the progress of the portal on Friday. The proposed DUST Portal 2.0 is an advanced AI-enabled environmental monitoring and compliance platform developed by DPCC. It has been specifically designed to effectively deal with the problem of dust pollution in Delhi and to strengthen monitoring of pollution control measures.
The government believes that this AI-based platform will make monitoring of construction sites, dust emission areas and compliance with pollution control standards more effective and transparent. Through this, cases violating rules can be identified quickly and timely action will be ensured. During the review meeting, the Environment Minister directed the officials to finalize all the technical and administrative aspects of the portal. DUST Portal 2.0 can be launched in the coming few weeks. According to officials, the portal will use Artificial Intelligence (AI), real-time data analysis, automated assessment systems, AI-enabled cameras, particulate matter (PM) sensors and digital governance tools to monitor construction activities and compliance with environmental regulations across Delhi.
The portal will also effectively monitor dust control measures implemented at construction sites. The use and efficiency of high-density green anti-dust nets, anti-smog guns and other pollution control systems will be continuously monitored. This will ensure whether the construction agencies are following the prescribed environmental standards or not. Apart from this, DUST Portal 2.0 will also have an automated alert system. If the pollution level in any area is found to exceed the prescribed standards, the system will automatically issue an alert. Due to this, the concerned departments will get immediate information and necessary control steps can be taken in time.

DUST Portal 2.0: AI-based
Sirsa said that DUST Portal 2.0 will prove to be a powerful medium to make pollution control efforts in Delhi more effective, transparent and accountable. He clarified that the aim of the government is not only to collect pollution related data but also to fix accountability for following the rules. “Our aim is not just to collect data but to fix accountability. Every construction site will have to follow dust control norms and technology will help us identify violations in real-time,” the minister said.
He further said that development work is necessary in the capital, but it cannot be done at the cost of people’s health. The government wants to ensure that environmental standards are strictly followed during construction activities and dust pollution is kept to a minimum. AI based DUST Portal 2.0 will play an important role in increasing transparency, fixing accountability and ensuring prompt action in cases of negligence. Through the portal, monitoring of construction sites, assessment of pollution levels and identification of violation of rules can be done in real-time, so that the concerned agencies can take timely action.
Delhi government’s proposed DUST Portal 2.0 will use state-of-the-art technology to monitor and control dust pollution in the capital. The most important features of this portal include QR code based site monitoring system, under which each registered construction site will be given a unique QR code. By scanning this QR code, officials will be able to immediately see complete information about the concerned construction site, record of compliance with environmental rules, audit report and other important data. This will make the inspection process more transparent, faster and effective and monitoring compliance with rules will be easier.
DUST Portal 2.0 will also ensure 24×7 live monitoring of construction sites. Through this, officials will be able to immediately detect lack or negligence in following dust control instructions at any site and start taking action in time. This system will be integrated with PM sensors, AI based cameras and Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring stations. Through this, the impact of various construction sites on PM2.5 and PM10 levels will be assessed. This will help identify which sites are impacting air quality the most.
Dust pollution controlled by 24×7 AI monitoring
The facility of AI based alert system has also been included in this portal, which will automatically issue warnings in case of violation of environmental rules and increase in pollution levels. Violations under the portal will be classified into 3 levels so that the concerned departments can take timely and effective action. Yellow Alert will act as an early warning and inform if the air quality is approaching or exceeding the prescribed limit. Orange alerts will indicate audit-based moderate level violations, while red alerts will be issued in case of serious violations or high pollution levels. After the red alert is issued, the process of taking action can be started automatically by the concerned departments. During the review meeting the officials also showcased the special dashboard developed for the project experts and DPCC officials. Through these dashboards, real-time monitoring of compliance status, environmental analysis, alert management and digital audit will be possible.
